From birth, weight is a metric that can be used to check up on a baby’s development and particularly if they are eating enough and that they are in line with the general statistics of growth. It can be a useful metric when taken with a pinch of salt because making decisions based on it can be dangerous.
Height and weight are used to calculate BMI (body mass index).
Usually, pounds (lbs) are used to measure as they are more granular than stones, but some people grew up using stones as their preferred weight metric and would feel more comfortable. 1 pound is 0.07 stones. 1 stone is 14 pounds.
Once they turn 1 and beyond growth charts are not so useful and development is mostly around what they are capable of such as walking, talking, grabbing and so on. When they become 3 it is very rare for their weight to be measured, but it might be if they need to visit the GP or a hospital visit. Our son broke his leg when the was 3 and he was weighted at that point.
How many stones, pounds and kilograms should a 3 year old boy weigh
Below is a screenshot of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Health official weight chart which the NHS use. We have added a thick line where a 3 year old sits and you can see the large weight range in kilograms. We’re going to help you figure out how much a 3 year typically weighs in all 3 metrics.
The range is large, a 3 year old boy should weight between 10.5 kgs (0 percentile) to 23 kgs (100 percentile). This equates to 23.14 pounds to 50.7 pounds and lastly between 1 stone 65 stone to 3.62 stone. The mid point or average would be 2.6 stone or 2 stone 8 pounds.
The percentile is “measure used in statistics indicating the value below which a given percentage of observations in a group of observations fall”. For the layman it means that 0 is severely underweight, 100 is morbidly obese and 50th is the average.
Therefore, the average 3 year old boy should weight something in the region of 2.6 stone or a simpler way to put it is 2 stone 8 pounds.

That’s a large range with the lowest being extremely underweight and the maximum being morbidly obese. The midpoint/average weight for a 3 year old girl in stone is 2.4 or 2 stone 6 pounds.
